ABOUT US

OUR MISSION

The mission of Save Somali Women and Children (SMWC) is to fight against illiteracy, inequality, and gender-based violence by meaningfully improving the wellbeing of minority women and children in different parts of the country in the areas of education and livelihood through our charitable work.

OUR VISION

Our vision is to realize minority women’s participation in national development as equal partners and in a GBV-free society where both minority women and children overcome the burdens of illiteracy and obstacles to wellbeing. We aim to achieve these goals through civic engagement, community-based participation and partnership with like-minded agencies who put these problems at the forefront of global human rights.

ABOUT US

A FEW WORDS ABOUT US

Dedicated to creating a brighter future, Save Somali Women and Children (SMWC) was founded in 2020 by a group of minority women, driven by a shared commitment to uplift their communities. Through grassroots efforts and partnerships, we strive to combat the challenges of illiteracy, inequality, and gender-based violence, ensuring the wellbeing and empowerment of minority women and children across Somalia.

At Save Somali Women and Children (SMWC), our programs are designed with a comprehensive approach to address the multifaceted challenges faced by minority women and children in Somalia. Through initiatives spanning health and gender-based violence awareness, educational support, rights advocacy, and equality promotion, we strive to empower and uplift marginalized communities. By fostering partnerships and leveraging grassroots efforts, we aim to create sustainable change and improve the overall wellbeing of minority women and children across the country.

Empowering Minority Women and Children

At Save Somali Women and Children (SMWC), our mission is clear: to combat illiteracy, inequality, and gender-based violence by uplifting the wellbeing of minority women and children across Somalia. Through education and livelihood programs, we strive to make a meaningful difference in their lives, fostering equality and empowerment.

Fostering Change Through Partnership

SMWC’s collaboration with like-minded organizations and agencies is integral to our vision of realizing minority women’s participation in national development. Through initiatives such as the US John Lewis Fellowship Program, we provide opportunities for minority youths to gain visibility and access to decision-making processes, driving positive change in our communities.

WORKS

OUR PROGRAMS

Save Minority Women and Children (SMWC), established in 2020 as a community-based self-initiative, has been dedicated to uplifting minority women and children through grassroots efforts and educational empowerment programs. These initiatives include health and gender-based violence awareness campaigns, educational support, and advocacy for rights awareness, equality, and justice.
SMWC’s initiatives are bolstered by the support of members from the minority community both within Somalia and in the diaspora. Despite receiving modest funding, SMWC has successfully implemented various short-term programs focused on health, education, rights awareness, and advocacy for equality and justice. Through community-driven efforts, SMWC continues to make a meaningful impact on the lives of minority women and children, striving for a brighter and more equitable future.
In a significant achievement, SMWC partnered with Minority Rights Group (MRG) International to secure the US John Lewis Fellowship Program in 2023. This milestone project aims to support 16 minority youths in obtaining placements for visibility within government institutions in the Southwest State of Somalia. Through this fellowship, minority youth gain exposure to government operations and decision-making procedures, fostering their participation in shaping their communities’ future.
